What's happening in Yorkey's Knob?

Over the past two years our local Community Association (The Yorkeys Knob Community Progress Association, YKCPA in short) has been very active working with the Cairns Regional Council in giving our community a facelift. Visit the YKCPA web at https://yorkeysknobcommunity.com or their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Yorkeys-Knob-Community-Progress-Association-Inc

There has been a lot of work done on the Foreshore Beautification with new sheltered BBQ facilities, new covered seating facilities, three gym stations for public use, a beautiful new wide path, a new public toilet facility to the Southern end of the foreshore, removal of the timber barriers and installation of new street boundary posts, design and installation of the new children’s adventure playground at the Southern end and a general clean up of some of the vegetation.

There is more to happen by the end of 2018 with the new walkways connecting the path to the beach and viewing platforms to be installed and the continuation of the vegetation management plan to clear the foreshore of unwanted vegetation. It is great to see that the Community is utilising these facilities on a regular basis.

Varley Street has seen a major facelift from the entrance to the township all the way to the beach. There have been new trees planted to provide a more sheltered drive in to our community. Hopefully these trees will grow to form an archway in to Yorkeys. We have had a new entry sign installed welcoming all to our Community and the cycle path and pedestrian paths have been extended and clearly marked and a new pedestrian crossing at the shopping centre zone will occur this year.

Best of all The Northern Beaches “Mud Crabs” Ruby Union Club have made the Wattle Street sporting complex their home. Work on the grounds is nearing completion, their new facilities have been built and the stadium grounds lighting is about to be installed. The Club have confirmed that they will commence training and holding their competition rounds at their new home grounds this year. Join up and gather round your friends and the Community to help support this fantastic team. Visit their Facebook page at  https://www.facebook.com/northernbeachesmudcrabs and join up.
